Holtz - Silly Monsters Day 3

I've made a bunch of Silly Monster cards with Tim Holtz's new dies.
I'll post one a day over the next few days.  (It is day 3.)
I die cut the Silly Monsters from Stardream Metallic paper with Distress
Oxide Inks on them.  I find using a coated paper helps the ink move
and react with water better than card stock and
metallic paper adds a little shimmer!

This guy reminds me of MIKE from Monsters Inc.
but he has 2 eyes instead of just 1!  I edged
him in a little Charcoal Chalk ink to make him
stand out from the background.

Finished size is 4 1/4" square.

Have a great week!
  • Stamps: Tim Holtz - Crazy Talk, Slate & Stone CSM 299
  • Dies: Tim Holtz - Silly Monsters, Impression Obsession - Scribbles Circles, Lawn Fawn - Stitched Squares & Rectangles, MFT - Wonky Squares
  • Ink: Distress Oxides, Versafine Onyx Black, Cat's Eye - Chalk Ink Charcoal
  • Paper: Stardream Metallic - Hera 12x12, Neenah Solar White, Bazzill Licorice Twist, The Paper Cut - Brick
  • Other: Gelly Roll Glaze Pen - Black, Glossy Accents

SSCB #48 What's NEW?

We're back with the second installment of our Serendipity Stamps Blog Challenge  this month!  Use something on your project that is new to you.  This great sentiment stamp is new to me and just in time for Halloween!

I heat embossed the sentiment on watercolor paper and did the smooshing technique with some Distress Inks.
After it dried I colored the words with a marker and put some gems on it.

This cute little spider is from the Creepy Wreath die set.
He looks spooky sitting there in the corner!

Finished size is 4 1/2 x 5 5/8.

SSCB#48 What's New?

It's a new month so we have a new theme over at the
This month it's What's New?!  As long as you use at least one Serendipity image or die, you can play along!  Check out the blog for the details.

I am showing two of my newest items on this card.  First is the Brusho Colors for watercoloring backgrounds etc.  I have the fall colors and used a few on my watercolor paper as the background.  I sprayed the paper with water then sprinkled the Brusho powder and watched it bleed.....

My second item is this CUTE Creepy Wreath die and its accessories!  I chose the ghost and spider for my wreath's decorations.  I die cut the ghosts in a shiny ridged white paper and filled their eyes and mouth in with glossy accents.

Inside my card I stamped this great sentiment and added a bat and cat that came with the wreath die.  Finished size is 4.25 square.

Serendipity Stamps - Fall SSCB #36

We are continuing with the FALL challenge for you from the
For the whole month the theme is Fall.  To participate just use any of Serendipity's fall images or dies in your creation for a chance to win!

Just in case you need anything, this week’s sale is “Buy 3, Get the 4th Free”.
Offer good through Oct 22nd.

An additional challenge this time for the Design Team is to do a Halloween themed project. So, I have 3 Halloween cards to show you.

I just love these little trick-or-treaters!  When I was a kid we dressed up in simple costumes like these.  I wore the Witch costume my Grama made for many years and so did my sisters.  And of course I was Casper the Friendly Ghost one year.

I cut the BOO die twice in black and orange and glued them together.  I put a little Viva Crystal Clear on the moon for shine and some Wink of Stella Black Glitter pen here and there for shimmer.

Inside I stamped this sentiment with the mixed font and
added a bat and cat.

Finished size is 5 1/2 x 4 7/8.

My next card is a mini at just 3 1/2" square!  I colored the scene with a very different color sky for a change.  There is lots of shimmer from my Wink of Stella clear pen but the photo doesn't show it.

For this card I die cut the owl with FUN FOAM!  He is really THICK!
Finished size is an A-2.

Check out what the rest of the Design Team created!

We are having a special Fall Blog Hop to show off the great new images and dies for Serendipity Stamps Fall Release!

Hopefully you came from Marybeth Lopez's site:

I used this darling new stamp called Kitty and Jack for my Halloween card!

I had a great time coloring it with my Copics and I added some
Viva Clear Gloss Pen to the moon for some shine.

This sheer ribbon from my stash was the perfect compliment to the card.

I die cut it twice with black and green papers and layered it.
The finished size is 5 1/4 square.

Halloween Owl

I have a few Halloween cards to show you today and I used Serendipity's new Owl Die.

I paired him up with Cheery Lynn's 4 inch clock die from their Steampunk Series.  They just seemed to go together!  The bottom layer is colored with Copics and I put the same paper behind his eyes as the base layer of my card.  Rhinestones adorn his eyes.

I put foam tape behind him and pearls at each number.  You can find my owl tutorial HERE.

I had to do this card again in green!  It is much brighter in the picture than in real life! Ugh!
Both cards are 5 inches square.
Here is another picture of some Owls I made.....

Prickley Pear Guest Designer #1

Hi everyone!  For the next eight Thursdays I'll be posting cards I've made with Prickley Pear Stamps.  They have selected me to be their guest Designer for October and November.  My cards will be posted on their blog every Thursday.

I decided to start with a monochromatic Halloween card featuring a set and die I got last year.  Isn't this cat the best?! And, she comes with her very own die that also has a little bat!  I highlighted her eyes with some black pearls and popped her with foam tape.

I stamped a different cat on the inside for fun along with the matching sentiment.
  • Stamps & Die: Prickley Pear - Scary Cat & Bat
  • Ink: Versafine - Onyx Black
  • Paper: Basic Grey - Granola 6x6, black linen cardstock, Neenah Natural White 110 lb.
  • Other: oval punch, Perfect Layers, black pearls

Steampunk Spells!

When I got my hands on the new Graphic 45 Steampunk Spells paper I went crazy fussy cutting and making cards.  For me the images come together easily.  All those great colors and fantastic patterned paper make it a cardmaker's dream!

I have lots of paper flowers and metal gear pieces that go great with this line.  I also got all 3 sets of stamps that coordinate with the paper.

I am going to make a bunch of Halloween cards with this paper.  Can't wait!
  • Stamps: Hampton Arts - Graphic 45 - Steampunk Spells sets
  • Ink: Versafine - Onyx Black, Deep Lagoon
  • Paper: Graphic 45 - Steampunk Spells 8x8 & 12x12, black cardstock
  • Other: Perfect Layers, Prima rose, May Arts - Bittersweet Twine

3D Pumpkin!

Here is a pumpkin for Halloween!  I used Serendipity Stamps Pumpkin Die to make this cute decoration.  It can be used for Thanksgiving as well.  You can also make it into an apple (coming soon).
I die cut 9 pumpkins in different shades of orange and rust.  I colored the stems and vines with a Copic marker.  Each pumpkin is edged in Chestnut Roan chalk ink.  Then, I folded each pumpkin in half and glue them together back to back. (Just the body of the pumpkin, not the stems or vines.)  You can use as many or as few as you want with a minimum of 3.  When I post my apple I will have pictures of how to do it.
Here is a high view of the pumpkin.  A few of them on your Thanksgiving table would make a festive decoration.  Give it a try with any symetrical die or punch you have.  Here is a link to the instruction on SCS.
  • Stamps: NONE!
  • Paper: SU! Tangerine Tango, Pumpkin Pie, Really Rust, Cajun Craze & Dusty Durango
  • Ink: Cat's Eye - Chestnut Roan
  • Other: Grand Calibur, Copic E37

Mumeek! C4C160

Halloween is tomorrow and I wanted to color up this cute mummy-kid! I used this week's Crazy 4 Challenges sketch for the layout. I used black ink and clear embossing powder to give the lines some shine.
It was fun to play with the mummy shading and I didn't want to leave the strips white with a white background.  Gray gives it a nice soft color.  Some googly-eyes for the pumpkin wiggle for fun.
Finished size is 5.24 square.

  • Stamps: Stampendous - Mumeek, sentiment - unknown
  • Ink: Versafine - Onyx Black, Distress - Frayed Burlap, Cat's Eye - Lava Black
  • Paper: Neenah - Natural White, Echo Park - Chillingsworth Manor 6x6, PTI black
  • Copics: E30, E31, E34, E37, E95, E97, YG23, N1, N2, N3
  • Other: Spellbinders - Classic Ovals, clear embossing powder, heat gun, Michael's googly-eyes & black pearls, PTI buttons, Perfect Layers

Halloween - Outlines

With Halloween just a few days away I just had to post this card.  I took the Outlines Halloween collage stamp and stamped it on a bunch of different papers.  I cut the squares apart and layered them on the original image.  I ended up making 6 of these cards.  They are time consuming but fun to assemble.  I used a little Copic color here and there.  I added some glitter glue for sparkle and black Enamel Accents for shine.

I entered this card into the Red Carpet Studio card challenge.  Make a card with a pumpkin and Halloween theme!

Finished size is 5.5 inches square.
  • Stamps: Outlines - Halloween Collage
  • Ink: Memento - Tuxedo Black, Versafine - Onyx Black
  • Paper: Neenah - Solar White, misc dsp, black textured cardstock
  • Other: Copics, Enamel Accents, glitter glue in clear and yellow

Haunted House - MOJO & CTD

I decided to play in two challenges this week and make a Halloween card.  The first is Mojo Monday 264 for the layout and the second is the Color Throwdown for the colors.

Basic Grey's Eerie paper was just perfect for this color challenge.  I had to add a little yellow for the moon and windows.  Now I am thinking I should have colored them amethyst!

  • Stamps: SU! House of Haunts, Teeny Tiny Wishes
  • Ink: Versafine - Onyx Black, Cat's Eye - Lava Black
  • Paper: Basic Grey - Eerie 6x6, SU! Almost Amethyst & Basic Black
  • Other: Spellbinder - Classic Circles, SU! Summer Sun marker, Eerie stickers, Perfect Layers, SU! black ribbon

Halloween Accordian Book

Today I have my Happy Hauntings Halloween Accordian Window book to show you!  About a year ago a friend of mine, Patti Bachelder, taugh me how to make this wonderful book.  She found it in an old issue of The Stamper's Sampler but there were no instructions so she just figured out how to make it herself!
This one is made with Graphic 45's Happy Haunting 8x8 paper. It is the perfect size to make a 4x4 book.  If you use 6x6 paper, you can make a 3x3 book.
There are a total of 5 panels in this book.  Three on one side, 2 on the other.  You can make as many panels as you wish but it needs to be an odd number.  Last year I made a Christmas book with Graphic 45's Christmas Emporium paper with 7 panels.  You can also use this technique on the inside of a card.
This side just has 2 panels.  Here is a closer look at 4 of the panels.....
The windows are cut with Spellbinder dies. I used a different one for each panel.  Some pages have stamping.
This spider is made using the honeycomb technique and a
large Martha spider punch.
This panel is a night scene with Impression Obsession dies
and images fussy-cut from the G45 HH paper.
The paper is so busy I had to mat most of my decorations with black paper so they would stand out.  The images of the children, the moon and the 2 borders on the bottom are stickers.
Here is the back cover.  The pages of the book are 4 x 4 but the black mat board covers are 4 1/4 x 4 1/4.  They are glued onto the book then decorated.  The ribbon that ties around the book to close it is only adhered to the front cover.  It must hang loose so the book will open properly.

I hope you enjoyed seeing this spooky project.  I had great fun making it!
  • Stamps: Hampton Arts - G45 Happy Haunting Set 3
  • Ink: Versafine - Onyx Black, Cat's Eye - Lava Black for edging
  • Paper: G45 Happy Hauntings 8x8, black mat board, Linen black cardstock for die cuts
  • Dies: Cheery Lynn - Spider Web, Impression Obsession - Tree & Fence, MFT - small Leaf Flourish, Spellbinders - Labels 1, 2, 22, 24, Blossom
  • Other: G45 Happy Hauntings stickers, Martha spider punch, ribbon, foam tape
